Computer-Aided Methods for Determining Search Area at Sea

The paper studied the key part of search and rescue (SAR) aid system-determination of search area. Firstly, the search datum was determined by computing the influence of sea current, wind current and leeway to search objects. Secondly, the search area was determined by considering total probable error of position, available search effort, coverage factor, etc. Finally, the above computing processes were translated into computer algorithm and a computer- aided program was compiled for determining search area.
