Traditional desert buildings represent living witnesses for the correspondence of these buildings to thernsevere ambient environment especially harsh desert climate. Ghadames is one of desert cities in Libyarnthat was well known for its correspondence to the harsh desert climate.rnThis paper is going to study the spontaneous and practical experimentation of the traditional buildings,rnespecially houses, in Ghadames, through determining the ambient climatic factors and study the effect ofrnthese factors on the buildings design & details such as: materials, construction systems, walls thickness,rntype of roofing, openings. …etc. The paper also will study the efficiency of thermal performance of thesernbuildings and the materials that were used, such as: sun dried brick, gypsum and mud, depending on thernthermal properties of these materials that accommodated to desert climate. Thermal properties of buildingrnmaterials should be considered in buildings and housing projects in the desert and hot arid regions
