As the most expensive tree species in the world, Santalum album has been successively introduced and widely planted mainly in Southeast Asia, Australia and Pacific Ocean. However, the lack of researches on top value-added utilization of S. album leaf resulted in that its abundant leaf was abandoned wastefully. In order to solve this problem, we used Pyrolysis-GC/MS technology to analyze the prospect of biomedical components of S. album leaf. After benzene/ethanol extraction on fresh S. album leaf and removal of solvent, the extractive was pyrolyzed in He atmosphere at 590℃, then the pyrolysis product was analyzed by online linked GC/MS. Relative content of each component was determined by area normalization, and 117 compounds were identified from 142 peaks as follows: 16-hentriacontanone (8.69%), 11,14,17-eicosatrienoic acid, methyl ester (8.49%), hexadecanoic acid (5.38%), pyrazine (4.01%), cyclooctacosane (3.89%), phenol (3.19%), benzenepropanal,.beta.-methyl-(2.53%), toluene (2.17%), 3-pentanone,2-methyl-(2.12%), phytol (2.08%), 4,7-dimethyl-5-decyne-4,7-diol (2.03%), etc. The analytical result showed that the pyrolyzate of benzene/ethanol extractive of S. album leaf is abundant in rare medicinal materials and rare biomedical spices, and contains other byproducts which can be used as materials of high-grade cosmetics, skin care, bioenergy and industrial solvent.
