The UK water industry has utilized spray applied linings for water mains rehabilitation sincernthe early 1900"s. The original process used cement mortar but over the last 20 years this hasrnbeen succeeded by epoxy resin with over 11 000 miles of pipe lined.rnAlthough offering a durable, inert and proven coating which can be applied quickly and atrnlow cost, the 16 hour cure period has led the industry to develop products which cure within 2rnhours.rnSince the recent introduction of such a rapid-setting product, numerous water companies andrncontractors have assessed the potential advantages of its use and over 300 miles of waterrnmains of diameter 3 to 33" have been lined to date.rnNow approved and starting to be used in North America, this paper outlines the process andrnthe current status of the materials. It will highlight, from an independent viewpoint, thernapparent advantages, limitations and experiences gained through research and monitoringrnactual rehabilitation projects.
