The current paper highlights the capability of commercial simulation tools (ADAMS and MATLAB) in analysing electrically driven machine systems. In this study a simulation model was constructed in such a way that effects of permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) cogging torque in mechanics could be studied. The studied mechanical structure was partly flexible. The flexibility was obtained from an FE -model. The structure contained a movable mass, which gave the possibility to vary the nominal frequency of the structure. To ensure the validity of the simulation results, the theoretical results are compared with those obtained by measuring the real structure. The results indicate that the used methods are suitable for analysing a coupled simulation model that contains an electric drive and mechanics.
