Abstract: The possibility of improving the image quality of a reflecting object, viewed through a randomly inhomogeneous medium, is theoretically investigated. Three cases of coherent illumination of the object are considered: illumination by unperturbed wave, illumination and viewing through different inhomogeneities of a medium, illumination and viewing through the same inhomogeneities (double passage imaging). It is shown that, when the fluctuations of the intensity in the plane of the receiving lens aperture are strong, the use of a suitable spatial filter always gives an improvement of the average image for the object, correlation scale of which is larger than coherence radius of a spherical wave propagating in the medium. !14
