摘要

The impingement and solidification of individual liquid metaldrops are simulated numerically. Drop deposition on a coldwall or on previously deposited drops is examined, includingdrop remelt, coalescence, and resolidification. Our methodaccounts for both fluid flow and heat transfer and is based on asingle set of conservation equations for all phases writtensimultaneously, allowing arbitrary changes in materialproperties. The phase boundaries are treated as imbeddedinterfaces by adding the appropriate source terms to theconservation equations. Each of these phase boundaries isexplicitly tracked using a moving grid of lower dimensionwhich allows the conservation equations to be solved efficientlyon a fixed grid. In this way, accurate solutions for complexphase boundaries are obtained without excessive computationaleffort. Here, numerical results using a simple, stable solidifyinginterface model for one or more drops are presented.
