摘要

This paper presents studies on micro drilling operation, which refers to manufacturing of micro-holes with diameters less than 0.5 mm. Wear process of micro drill and its influence on machined hole quality and vibration characteristics in micro drilling operation were investigated through extensive experimentation with 0.29mm diameter twists drills drilling into plain carbon steel. Vibration signals collected from the micro drilling experiments were analyzed using time and frequency techniques. Characteristic parameters of vibration signatures: statistical measures of the time domain and averaged spectral amplitude at specified bands of the frequency domain were found very sen sitive to drill wear and breakage.
