THE SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY COORDINATING COUNCIL- COMMITTEEON SPACE TECHNOLOGY APPLICATIONS (STCC-COSTA) – A DECADE INRETROSPECT

The Science and Technology Coordinating Council - Committee on Space TechnologyApplications ( STCC - COSTA ) of the Republic of the Philippines provides a general instrument for cooperation and coordination on space technology applications at both the national and regional levels and for the implementation of the various regional programs drawn up in the context of the Beijing Declaration of 1994 on Space Technology Applications for Environmentally Sound and Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific. The programs of the STCC - COSTA also outline the national mechanism for building capacity of member agencies for using space technology and its applications for natural resource mapping, poverty alleviation and sustainable development planning, and lay down the framework for execution of the national and regional programs through a coordinated approach. The paper showcases the STCC - COSTA and presents the highlights of accomplishments of the organization, through its more than a decade of existence, and outlines some of its programs and projects in the years to come.
