Electromagnetic environment is the main war field environment in the future EW. The capability of controlling it affects the progress of the war and decides which side will win. The level of researching it influences and restricts the development of EW equipment. The Gulf-war and the Kousow-war are two good examples. By using VR technology, Virtual Electromagnetic environment provides a necessary environment for the manufacture and development of EW equipment, and at the same time a required platform for establishing and validating tactics use principles of EW equipment. This paper discusses four important characteristics about VR technology. It presents a typical architecture of EW equipment Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation system. It expatiates the main composition of a virtual electromagnetic environment, and presents the methods and relative technology that can be used when building such modules. Lastly it discusses the application of VR technology in the EW Hardware-in-the-Loop simulation test system.
