In contemporary world, every country is found to be troubled with energy scarce problem. Energy conservation and emission reduction are the theme of the times and are also the development goals and guidelines of the future shipping industry. The main propulsion plant's waste heat recovery of ship is the main measure to improve the economic nature, and is a major issue related to the harmonious development of the whole world. Based on the analysis of energy and environmental issues, status of the ship's refrigeration and waste heat utilization condition of the ship's power plants, a new binary ice making system is proposed. This new absorption binary ice making system uses TFE/TEGDME (trifluoroethanol/tetraethylene glycol dimethyl ether) as it's working fluids and employs the cooling water of diesel engine as it's heat source. The binary ice has many advantages such as: 1) it has small ice crystal size and can effectively inhibit the reproduction of bacteria; 2) it has high cold storage density and good liquidity; 3) the binary ice can be pumped and the system is easy to be arranged; 4) the production of binary ice consumed less energy than the massive ice. In this paper, the TFE/TEGDME thermal properties have been studied and the theoretical analysis and calculation of the absorption binary ice making cycle using TFE/TEGDME as it's working fluids have been launched. The main components of the system such as evaporator, absorber, gas-liquid separator, generator, mixer and condenser have been designed. An absorption binary Ice making plant has been built.
