Results from an experimental program to investigate the mode I fracture energy of 2Drntriaxially braided carbon fiber textile composites (2DTBC) under static and low velocity impact (LVI)rnconditions are reported. Rectangular single edge notched fracture specimens were cut from a largernmolded plaque, and stressed using a three point bend test fixture. Load and load point displacementrnwere measured. The crack initiation, propagation and crack path history was recorded using arncombination of digital photography and crack tip gages. The measurements were used to extract thernfracture energy as a function of crack tip position.
