Revs Mass Digitization: A Framework for Establishing, Measuring, and Sustaining Quality

This paper recounts unique challenges presented in the collaboration between The Revs Institute, Stanford University Libraries (SUL), and Pixel Acuity. The first stage of the Revs digitization project includes the outsourced imaging of 14 archival collections including more than 500,000 photographic negatives, slides, and color transparencies spanning nearly a century. The project required: developing adaptive solutions for handling and imaging vintage and unique formats, establishing benchmarks, and developing a framework for measuring and sustaining high levels of quality and throughput - essential first steps toward building an important, comprehensive, virtual museum of automotive history.
