Abstract: A silver-coated capillary substrate has been prepared by means of chemical reduction of silver ions. Its performance as a surface- enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) active substrate has been compared with those of chemically prepared silver/glass and of silver islands using p-chlorobenzoic acid (PCBA) as an analyte. The adsorption behavior of PCBA on or near the surface of silver films has partially been characterized. The dependence of SERS intensity on the pH and the concentration of the analyte solution may be interpreted on the basis of chemical enhancement mechanism.!10
