The physical phenomenon of composite materials wear requires experimental research meant to allow the determination of possible laws regarding the influences of material and operation regime factors. In practice, it is more and more often necessary to create and adapt the materials composing the technological equipment to severe wear conditions, especially of abrasive type. In this context, there are a number of subassemblies and spare parts whose high specific consumptions determine high production costs and, consequently, a low global profitableness. A relevant example is that of metallic tools for rock displacement, as well as a series of subassemblies belonging to main haulage equipment with troughs. The paper presents the results of the research on the abrasive wear of multilayer composite materials (at the contact with barren rocks) containing wolfram carbides and ferrous alloys. The experiments were conducted with tools made of composite materials destined to the displacement of barren rocks in order to establish the factors with a predominant impact on their wear.
