Practical implementation and new components for OPAL

The German Telekom keeps pace with technological progress, satisfying the requirements and expectations of its customers by continually modernizing the telecommunications network. Since the beginning of the 80 s fiber optics technology has entered areas that had been the domain of copper technology for over a century. For example over the last decade for new projects in the area of long distance lines fiber optic technology has supplanted copper technology (34 and 140 MBit/s transmission). The reasons are both technical and economic.In the OPAL 93 projects in the new German states for the first time in the world the mass installation of fiber optic technology was introduced in the subscriber loop.
