Photocatalytic Reduction of Hexavalent Chromium by CuDoped TiO_2

This study presents the photocatalytic reduction of aqueous hexavalent chromium rn(Cr(VI)) by a novel copper doped )tanium dioxide (Cu-­‐TiO2) prepared by simplernevaporation and calcination from CuCl2 and TiO2 (Degussa P25). Under an oxygen-­‐saturated condition and in the absence of radicalquenchers or scavengers, the rnoptimum pH of the reduction using Cu-­‐TiO2 was around 5, which is higher thanrnthat using TiO2 (at around pH 3). The optimum photocatalytic reduction raternof Cr(VI) by Cu-­‐TiO2was about 3)mes faster than that by TiO2. The reduction raternwas enhanced in tap water, compared to that in pure water. These resultssuggestrnits potential in real-­‐world applications.
