THE 27 YEAR PATHWAY TO CAMBRIA’S NEW EMERGENCY WATER SUPPLY

The Cambria Community Services District (CCSD) provides water and wastewater services tornthe Community of Cambria, an unincorporated town of approximately 6,200 full time residents,rnwhich is located on the central coast of California, approximately mid-way between Los Angelesrnand San Francisco. Cambria relies entirely on two narrow and thin coastal stream groundwaterrnaquifers for their drinking water supply that have relatively small storage and rely upon seasonalrnrainfall for replenishment. With the aquifer at risk of seawater intrusion and with no additionalrnsupplies available, CCSD has been forced to limit new water connections and pursue anrnaggressive water conservation program, which has been in place since the 1980’s.
