LATEST DEVELOPMENTS IN DRILL AND TUNNELLING

The environment in tunnel construction is continuously changing towards higher demands for quality, environmental responsibility and economy in operation. The latest technologies and methods provide tools to develop the drill and blast method to meet these demands. In drilling, the actual penetration rate is no longer the bottleneck for performance. The performance can be improved by continuous drill pattern optimisation. The most important feature of instrumented machines thus becomes the ability to repeat the designed blast round after round. The latest drill steel concepts give a whole new level of drilling accuracy, and thus enable the utilisation of high performance and accuracy of drill machines. To get the full benefits, a new process-oriented way of operation has to be adapted. This requires efficient ways of control, reporting and information sharing at work-sites.
