Potential emission of multiple pollutants including SOx, NOx, HCl, PCDD/Fs andheavy metals from stationary sources has become a public concern. Pollutants likePCDD/Fs may originate from different sources, including waste incineration, bushfire,diesel engines and even smoking. To meet the emission standards which becomemore and more stringent, most pollutant emitters are commonly equipped withvarious air pollutant control devices (APCDs). They use different equipment andprocedures, leading to different levels of emission control. Therefore,multi-pollutants treatment technologies with the advantages of bringing down thecapital and operation cost as well as reducing the space required for facilityinstallation can fit the demand of Taiwan well. In this study, an innovative airpollution control technology, which combines plasma and catalysis is developed.This technology is investigated for its effectiveness in simultaneous removal ofPCDD/Fs. The PCDD/F removal efficiency achieved with pilot-scale combinedplasma catalysis system is more than 90%. This innovative air pollution controltechnology is of high potential to solve the emerging air quality problems in 21century.
