WHAT ARE CEMs AND WHY DO WE NEED THEM

Today's business environment has become well rooted in computer technology and enhancements to the point that meetings and training sessions involving persons from all parts of the country are now being conducted via the internet. This same technological trend has made its way to the heart of manufacturing as the specifications for monitoring emissions have tightened. It has become increasingly difficult to detect impurities at concentrations in the part per billion range and to turn-around the results of the assay within 10 to 15 minutes. This type of rigorous analysis has to be completed using continuous emission monitors (CEMs). This paper presents the use of continuous emission monitors in the Ethylene industry, the challenges associated with their use, and the advantages and disadvantages of maintaining these highly sophisticated machines.
