Modal Measurement of Gimbaled Tilt Rotor with Advanced Geometry Blades

Tiltrotor blades utilize complex shapes with large pretwist and airofoil variations along the span to considerrnthe flight conversion between helicopter mode and airplane mode. The new advanced geometry tilt rotorrnblades have more complex variations in sweep, anhedral and taper to decrease noise and improvernperformance but increase the difficulties of dynamics analysis. A practical modal testing of advancedrngeometry tilt rotor blade in free-free and rotor planted boundary conditions was developed to validate therndynamic analysis precisions. Compared results between analysis and experimentation demonstrate thernexperimental method is practical and able to analyze the dynamic characteristics of gimbaled tilt rotor withrnadvanced geometry blades in three dimensions.
