REJUVINATING AIRFRAMES - A NEW PARADIGM

For economic reasons, traditional metal primary airframe structures were rarely converted to composites after they were qualified, and put into production. However with new advanced manufacturing technologies demonstrated by the RWSTD and SARAP programs this paradigm is changing. This paper will discuss the historical evolution of composite airframe technology culminating in current H-60 composite insertion initiatives to improve performance and reduce cost.
