The application of risk-based approaches to common pipeline issues

This paper describes the main elements of a risk-based methodology that can be applied across a broad range of situations to optimise the cost-effective operation of ageing pipelines. Examples are given where this approach may prove beneficial. The importance of the integratio of such an approach into an overall pipeline management system is discussed.
