High Velocity Oxy-Fuel thermal spray is a clean, dry-coating method that has become therntechnology of choice for replacing engineering hard chrome in the aircraft industry. It is a harderrncoating that typically gives about three times the wear life of hard chrome. It is particularlyrneffective for hydraulic systems and for building up thick repair coatings on large items.rnHowever, it cannot be used in many non-line-of-sight areas, and because it is a spray ratherrnthan a bath technology, its cost factors are significantly different from most plating methods.rnThis paper describes the technology, its quality and performance, capabilities and limitations,rnand its costs.
