Chinas National Geochemical Mapping program was initiated in 1979. The regional geochemistry maps of 1:200000 scales were prepared. It is necessary to analyze 39 elements in the national geochemical maps. In 1983 China's regional and some provincial centers of geological analysis used two main methods for the analysis of 1:200000 geochemical mapping samples in China. One of them used Wavelength Dispersive X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometry (WDXRF) and the other one used Inductive Coupled Plasma Atomic Emission Spectrometric Analysis (ICP-AES). Some auxiliary methods were also used for analyzing other elements that could not be analyzed by WDXRF or ICP-AES. Satisfactory results have been obtained through more than ten years of practice. Topics of this paper include an introduction of China's 1:200000 national geological mapping sample analysis, sample preparation, analytical instrument and method, application and development of new technique, its effect and conclusion.
