When considering construction activities some of them generate vibrations ;the use of explosives , drilled shaft foundations r , sheet pile driving, compaction, displacement of heavy machinery , etc. All of them may induce damages to installations or r buildings as well as annoyance to persons in the surroundings. Although many references are available recommending maximum r vibration levels for different cases, no general standard exists to establish criteria for regulating vibrations during r construction processes. This propitiates that participants involved in a project have different criteria on permissible r vibration levels and since not sufficient information is available to make a reasonable prediction of the effects, very r restrictive operating limits are therefore applied but with no solid ba -ses. A standard is available in Mexico to delimit r the maximum time of exposure of persons subjected to vibrations derived from machinery works but not precisely applied to r construction activities. For purposes of the paper presented herein , such standard was used as starting point so as to r determine its applicability in vibrations produced by construction processes. Reference was made in this work of standards r issued by 10 countries and vibration records of six case histories in Mexico were includ ed adding up to a total of 639 r validated data that made it possible to propose an approach for the analysis by different experts in this field as background r information to endorse in a medium term ap proval of a standard for controlling the effects of vibrations in construction r processes. It is concluded as an outcome of this work that a very accurate control can be implemented by comparing vibration r velocity and acceleration with suggested limits.
