A Carbide Catalyst Effective for the Dry Reforming of Methane at Atmospheric Pressure

A catalyst composed of metallic nickel and molybdenum carbide has been fabricated for CO_2 reforming of CH_4. Aspects concerning the formation of Ni and Mo_2C, their synergistic effects for CH_4 and CO_2 activation, and the establishment of a redox cycle were studied. Due to the catalytic oxidation-recarburization cycle, the Ni-Mo_2C catalyst is superior to the traditional metal carbide catalysts as verified by its stable activity in the dry reforming of CH_4 at atomspheric pressure.
