PRODUCT QUALITY OF ESA’S ATMOSPHERIC-CHEMISTRY MISSIONS

ESA’s Atmospheric Chemistry Mission is providingrnfundamental information for the understanding ofrnatmospheric chemistry processes. The global datasetsrnare supporting climate research, air qualityrnassessments, stratospheric ozone monitoring and manyrnother science areas and operational services.rnENVISAT with GOMOS, MIPAS and SCIAMACHYrnhas contributed to a unique data set over a period of 10rnyears, before its major anomaly in April 2012, leadingrnto the end of the operational part of the mission.rnGOME, on board ERS-2 has been acquiring data for 16rnyears, before it’s de-commissioning in July 2011.rnThe quality of the corresponding data sets isrncontinuously being improved, also beyond therntermination of the satellite’s operational phases. This isrnrealised with the support of numerous teams of sciencernexperts, evolving the algorithm and calibration baselinernand validation teams assessing the resulting upgradedrndata sets.
