A desalination process comprising the passage of seawater with a high content of ionic species that form hardness inlays, microorganisms, particulate matter and total dissolved solids through a membrane nanofiltration unit to form a first water product with a reduced content of said ionic species, microorganisms, particulate matter and total dissolved solids, then the passage of said first water product through a reverse osmosis unit of seawater to form a second water quality water product drinking water and a discarded product with an increased salinity and reduced hardness, and then the passage of said discarded water product through a thermal distillation unit to form a third water product of drinking water quality.
