Nozzle Geometry Effects in the Near Field of a Round Jet

Axisymmetric numerical experiments of round jets are reported with the aim of showing the nozzle geometry effects on the jet evolution. It is shown in particular that, although the simulation of the nozzle flow has a non-negligible computational cost, its effect on the jet evolution can be very important. It is also demonstrated that the How configuration resulting at the nozzle exhaust can not be assigned at the boundary of a computational domain without considering also the flow inside the nozzle since it is a combination of radial and axial velocity components supported by an appropriate pressure distribution.
