A dynamic model for a machine tool spindle rotor mounted on a compliant, damped suspension system is derived and assembled into matrix quadratic form.Analysis procedures are used to illustrate the inherent, multivariable feedback form of the system model enabling the employment of closed loop investigation techniuqes. The relative stability properties of the model are established for the operational range of the system.Rotor speed regulation is invoded and the effect of this oon hte stability of the arrangement is commented upon.
