In order to appreciate the many properties of thermosetting resin composites, one needs to have a clear understanding of the chemistry of the resin that represents 30 to 40% of the composite, and fulfills a variety of critical functions in addition to maintaining the shape of the composite structure and aligning the reinforcements. This paper describes the chemistry of thermosetting resins and their principle properties that affect the overall performance of the composite.
