A new range of bio-soluble engineered mineral fibres has been developed and is offered to the market. These mineral fibres are used for the production of several compounds in the Plastics industry. Their performance level lies between the low aspect ratio fibres (like wollastonites) and the much more expensive glass fibres. Offering mechanical properties closer to glass fibre but produced via a more consistent and cost effective production process, they offer interesting solutions and development opportunities, driven by their new price-performance balance. The engineered mineral fibres can be used to produce conventional compounds with specific advantageous properties but are also very suitable to produce high filled masterbatches which give the moulder a possibility to tailor make his own materials for various applications on a cost effective way, by diluting these masterbatches during processing till the desired fibre levels are reached.
