Experimental Data Comparison of Air Distributions in the 7-Row Cabin Mockup and the MD-82 Aircraft Cabin

Measurements were carried out to investigate the differences of air distribution in two different cabin facilities: an MD-82 aircraft experimental platform and a 7-row cabin mockup based on Boeing 737. State-of-the-art methods were used to obtain the detailed flow properties in two cabins, including velocity and thermal boundary conditions, flow fields, temperature fields and turbulent fields. The two sets of data in the two cabin facilities were analyzed and compared. Based on the analysis of the 3D characteristic of air supply in two cabins, we proposed a coefficient of cos Gcosal, and then made the correction of Ar and Re formulas. The requirement to maintain this kind of fully-rotary airflow pattern in cabins was also calculated and determined. From the experimental data comparison, it showed that the 7-row cabin mockup had the similar air distribution features with the real aircraft cabin.
