The distributed system is increasingly being used in a variety of applications ranging from networked information services to multimedia to high computational-based problems that require reliable and fast communication. Resource scheduling is a fundamental characteristic of any distributed system as it affects its software architecture. In this paper, we are proposing a generalized algorithm for dynamic scheduling of concurrent tasks in the distributed system. It is based on a cost model with processor and communication components. The performance of the algorithm has been evaluated by simulating several scheduling schemes in distributed systems of varying size and it is shown that it provides a near optimal solution for a wide range of problems.
