Hearing Aid Devices: A Few Selected Research Issues

For a long time, hearing impaired ness has been an inevitable severe problem in the medical community. However with technological evolutions, attempts have been made to provide hearing aids. Currently available hearing aid devices, though help the patients up to certain extent, have the severe problems related with noise and echo. With time, technology has been further advanced and it has opened a wide window to overcome such problems. But, there are a number of research challenges to bring the technology to the end user. This paper will discuss a few of them. It includes issues related with CMOS IC design, noise cancellation using DSP, binaural configuration, use of wireless link, etc.
