Cd_(1-x)Zn_xS thin films and Cd_(1-x)Zn_xS/CdTe solar cells were deposited via the AP-MOCVD method whereby x was tuned from 0 to 0.91. A clear gain in the blue-to-UV regions for the spectral response was observed with increasing x, enhancing the conversion efficiency by as much as 37%. Devices with highly Zn-rich window layers (x > 0.7), however, were characterized with increased shunting and eventually increased series resistance which limited the device performance.
