Methods of determining the optimum granular filter medium properties are discussed in thisrnpaper. Optimized design of granular medium filtration systems result in significant capital andrnoperational savings while achieving the desired effluent quality. Filter design criteria arernoptimized utilizing a granular medium depth filtration model and results obtained from pilotrnstudies or similar plants.
