A Reusable Architecture for the Cooperation of Information Systems

The growth and diversity of automated information systems (IS) in organizations make the cooperation of information from heterogeneous databases and/or knowledge bases necessary. So, we propose a cooperative information system based on an architecture that manages the different types of heterogeneity (technical, syntactic, structural and semantic conflicts) and where the extracted knowledge is designed for reuse. Thus, our multi-level architecture allows a high level of cooperation by using object-oriented and distributed artificial intelligence techniques. A process and concepts such as cooperation patterns and components capitalize knowledge from this architecture to reuse it to develop new cooperative applications.
