Do not Neglect Small Troubles: Target Processing is Modulated by the Sensitivity to Emotionally Negative Stimuli with Varying Valence

Previous research indicated that the human brain is sensitive to the valence difference in emotionally negative stimuli, and this sensitivity enhanced as the valence increased. Nevertheless, Dose the cognitive processing under the influence of emotion can vary with valence strength in the same way? This issue has yet to be directly investigated. The present study investigated the interaction between emotion and cognition by using cue-target paradigm. Cues consisted of three kinds of pictures, which were neutral, moderately negative (MN) and highly negative (HN) pictures. The target was a natural scene of cup. Subjects were required to respond to the target represent side by press the different keys. The results shows that cue-evoked ERPs enhanced amplitude elicited by HN relative to neutral and MN conditions in frontal area. Whereas target evoked ERPs reflected MN elicited smaller P3 amplitudes than other conditions in central-parietal area. On the other word.
