In the last years it has been a huge research, specially in Italy and Spain, for determining the capability of glass- ceramics compositions for producing glazes with improved mechanical and chemical properties over the traditional glazes used in tile industry. Here are reviewed and shown first results of new compositions designed from traditional raw materials and industrial wastes for the production of glass- ceramics glazes for covering of fast firing ceramic substrates both: earthenware and porcelainized stoneware. Due also to increased industrial interest in the recycling of some industrial wastes which are produced in large tonnage in Europe giving rise to environmental problems, the adequacy of wastes such as: from granite natural production and zinc hydrometallurgy have been explored for the production of other new glass ceramics glazes which can be useful in tile coverings.
