The European Space Agency (ESA) has largely basedrnits approach to Mission Control Systems (MCS)rndevelopment on the ability of re-using. This has resultedrnin a powerful and stable software infrastructure thatrnprovides generic functionalities for spacecraftrnmonitoring and control.rnIn the last few years, other initiatives have been startedrnwith the aim of further reducing the cost of the MCSrndevelopment.rnMCS requirements are produced as “delta” with respectrnto software infrastructure. Moreover missions with arnsimilar profile can be grouped into classes that map intornwell-defined “Mission Families”.rnThe paper shows the advantages of applying the Deltarnconcept to a Mission Family. The process brings to therndefinition of Mission Family Kernel.rnThe case of the Earth Observation mission family isrnpresented as practical example of applying the describedrnmethodology.
