The reconstruction of Villa Eschebach: An example of dialogue between historic and contemporary architecture in Dresden

One of the most exciting and versatile aspects of modern architecture is working with historical building substance and building culture. In this respect, one of our main concerns is to preserve valuable historical building substance and qualities of urban architecture through contemporary, forward-looking architectural concepts and through enhancing their value by integrating them in a dynamic renewal process. The special historical development features of a location and the visible traces which they leave behind give rise to new concepts. The quality of these concepts is the product of dialogue between historical and contemporary architecture. This includes the seams between repaired and carefully restored building substance and contemporary additions or new designs, which are some of the most interesting elements of modern architecture. This theme was also one of the main emphases of the planning strategy for the restoration of Villa Eschebach.
