Experimental and Theoretical Residence Time Distributions of Solids in a Blast Furnace

The solids flow in a two-dimensional blast furnace has been studied experimentally and theoretically with special reference to residence time distribution. The residence time distributions were measured under different conditions and were shown to be predicted satisfactorily by a previously developed solids flow model. The results suggested that solids flow rates had slight influence on the mean residence time and stagnant zone size, while gas flow rates significantly influenced mean residence time and stagnant zone. Moreover the size of the stagnant zone was correlated with the residence time distribution, which could be useful for future three-dimensional work and/or practice.
