Behavioral circuit models of jitter modulator and single-ended-mode to mixed-mode transformer are proposed to support fast signal integrity simulations for high-speed electronic packaging system design. The function of the jitter modulator behavioral circuit model is for injecting the time-domain jitter into the system data stream in the signal transient simulation. The injected time-domain jitter are from either measurement or the simulation based on the system jitter transfer function. The proposed behavioral circuit model of jitter modulator makes it possible to make direct use of the jitter transfer model in the system signal integrity transient simulation. For high-speed differential net such as in PCIe bus, the eye diagram including the jitter is usually observed in the differential voltage. A behavioral circuit model of single-ended-mode to mixed-mode transformer is proposed for convenient setup of the system signal integrity simulation using the jitter modulation behavioral circuit model. The proposed behavioral circuit models have been tested by using a transient circuit simulation tool. Reasonable results have been obtained. The verifications include comparing with the known correct results and some self-testing methods. The proposed behavioral circuit models provide a very flexible and convenient modeling and simulation method to the signal integrity modeling and simulation team in the high-speed server system packaging design.
