摘要

As the world's Cast Metal Industry finds itself operating more and within a globalised market, there is emerging a greater need for it to raise its skills level. The many multi-national manufacturing organisations which now represent the markets for cast metal components, demand a greater understanding by foundries of their problems and technologies. A higher skills level is expected from not only managers but also from supervisors and operators involved with the production of cast metal components. Many traditional training programmes and in some cases educational systems do not lead to repid application of new technologies. The development of Modern Information Technology systems has created a much wider accessibility to interested parties, a wider range of training options. The development of vocational skills and underpinning knowledge is now available to many more people involved with the cast metals industry. The Europen Community, through such programmes as the Leonardo Da Vinci" project are developing training programmes which are common to all those Partner countries involved with the Union. The first of these named "Euro-foundry" is involved with the development of suitable training programes to overcome identified skill shortages common to all partner countries The authors will describe how the scheme came to be established and how it has developed so far. They have, with the full co-operation of their European Partners, identified a number of common problems which apply to all Partners. The programmes now being developed are designed to overcome these problems.
