In the criticality analysis of electric substations, the main difficulty is caused by the presence of reliability block diagrams (RBD) of non series-parallel kind (e.g. T-schemes). In these cases the Markov representation becomes very complicated since the redundancies consist of components of different kind. In this paper the criticality analysis of a railway substation was performed transforming a T-kind RBD into parallel-series schemes by means of cut-set procedures. After the transformation, the criticality of each subsystem was computed and then the opportunity for obtaining a uniform criticality for the various equally important subsystems were also investigated. The analytical-graphic method is based on the total probability theorem.
