This paper is an excellent and timely discussion of microbiologically influenced corrosion (MIC) problems in cooling water systems. This is important, because in spite of the voluminous literature on various aspects of MIC that has appeared over the past five years or so, there are few papers that discuss the problem from a basic, practical applications viewpoint. This is one of those papers. The Author has clearly explained reasons why MIC problems occur, inspection procedures for detecting MIC in progress, methods for recovering from MIC in progress, methods for recovering from MIC, preventive measures and on-line early warning systems.
