Packaging paper: an update of manufacturing technology and economics

Since the beginning of paper making, several new technologies have been incorporated into the paper making process to reduce the total production costs per net ton. As never before, new technologies and methods have been adapted to the specific packaging paper requirements so that the paper industry can remain competitive in existing markets and be receptive to new opportunities to optimise economic efficiency. This paper describes several possibilities from the headbox to the reel, where better technologies improve economics and product quality of new paper machines and rebuilds.
